Skopje, 5 November 2025 – During the 2025 Local Elections, the Coordinating Body for Monitoring Compliance with the Code of Conduct in the Online Sphere during Elections and Referenda reaffirmed its role as a rapid-response mechanism in cases of unethical behavior in the online sphere — a space where hate speech and manipulative communication most often spread.
In the period between the official announcement of the Local Elections and the conclusion of the second round of voting, the Coordinating Body received eight complaints, mainly from candidates for local government positions, political coalitions, and journalists. The complaints concerned media content, social media posts, and public appearances by candidates.
The complainants raised objections to instances which, in their view, violated the principles of fair electoral communication, accuracy of information, and respect for the privacy and dignity of political rivals.
